Our department moved into a shiny new open floor plan recently and I volunteered to be part of the team to give it some personality. Creatives from my generation can all probably cite the early era of video game systems as influential in their career path and the two most nostalgic are the Atari 2600 & Nintendo Entertainment System. But it wasn’t enough to just buy some decals and slap them on a wall, I had to “Clorox-ify” them. I incorporated the signature Bleach bottle into “Germ Invaders” (with a nod to a competitor sewn in) and the admirable profession of the legendary Mario (in fact a plumber) and signature Downtown Oakland headquarters into a Liquid-Plumr influenced wall.
Another important juncture of the computer graphics era was the original Mac GUI and the Susan Kare designed icon system. I had 17 wall panels fabricated with some of her most iconic works embossed and mounted along our main corridor to honor her work and the contribution to our culture and profession.
